Bayliss Blitzes Brands for SuperSport Double Victory
Oli Bayliss secured his first Quattro Group British Supersport double victory at Brands Hatch this weekend as the Macadam Triumph Factory Racing rider recorded a third-consecutive win aboard the Triumph Street Triple 765 RS.
Arriving at Brands Hatch’s centenary weekend celebration, Bayliss was determined to continue the momentum gained within the British Supersport class, having taken previous podium finishes and victories at Knockhill and Snetterton.
Bayliss’ third weekend aboard the Macadam Triumph Street Triple 765 RS started strongly as the Australian got to grips with the quirky Grand Prix layout of the Kent-based venue. The number 68 rider concluded the opening day in seventh before putting his triple-powered machine on the front row for Saturday’s Sprint Race.
In near-perfect conditions, Bayliss made a strong launch to the 12-lap sprint and slotted himself into third at turn one before picking off Luke Stapleford at turn two, but was shuffled back to third a lap later. With a clear plan in mind, he began to surge forwards, first passing Jack Kennedy at Hawthorns before passing Ben Currie on the main straight at the start of lap four.
With a clear track ahead, Bayliss aimed to get his head down, but a determined ride from the pack behind made it hard work for the Triumph rider. Locked in battle, he dropped back to third before eventually reclaiming first place on lap ten. From there, he remained untouched, setting back-to-back fastest laps to hang on to victory and secure pole position for Sunday’s Feature Race.
Today’s race was another classic Brands Hatch dogfight, with Bayliss emerging victorious for a second time this weekend. From pole, Bayliss appeared from Paddock Hill Bend in second place but was quickly demoted to fourth as a fierce battle kicked off. With nine riders in the group, he held his position amongst the leading riders when a mistake from Stapleford behind split the pack. However, it was soon another seven-bike train, with Bayliss again in the thick of the action.
The leading battle ignited once more on the 13th rotation of the Brands Hatch circuit, with Stapleford and Bayliss locking horns again. His rival cut through at Paddock Hill Bend, but a mistake rewarded the Triumph rider first place once more. With the laps ticking off, Bayliss found himself down in third on the run to Druids, but again, a mistake from Stapleford allowed the Macadam Triumph back ahead.
With two laps to go, Bayliss secured the lead at Sheene Curve, passing Kennedy, who then cut back through when the Australian ran onto the green paint in the closing stages. Unfazed, he dived back underneath his rival, replicating his manoeuvre from the previous lap and held on to secure a second win of the weekend and his third on the bounce aboard the Triumph Street Triple 765 RS.
Teammate Max Wadsworth recorded two points-scoring finishes at Brands Hatch this weekend. The number 72 made a strong getaway to the Sprint Race and slotted himself in 15th before working his way up to 12th at the chequered flag.
It was more of the same for today’s 18-lap race, where the Halifax-based rider made another fast start and battled his way to a second 12th-place finish to cap off a productive weekend. SENCAT Racing’s Lee Johnston secured 10th and seventh to continue a strong Triumph presence inside the top 10.
Bayliss’ double victory cements his place as fifth in the standings and cuts the gap to 72 points. Wadsworth leaves Brands Hatch lying 14th in the overall classification.
Quattro Group British Supersport Championship action resumes on July 31 - 2 August for the sixth round of the 2026 season as the series returns to Oulton Park for a second time this year.
