WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT
AROUND THE WORLD IN 19 DAYS
SAM SUNDERLAND IS BACK ON TRACK
BACK ON TRACK
THE GREATEST TEST OF HIS CAREER
Two-time Dakar Rally champion Sam Sunderland started from London on the 5th of September in an attempt to become the fastest person to circumnavigate the globe solo on a motorcycle. Originally announced last year, the challenge was postponed after Sam broke his back in a training accident. After months of rehabilitation, he is back on the bike and ready to take on more than 18,000 miles across five continents - a test of speed, endurance and resilience unlike anything he has faced before.

Sam will complete the entire attempt on the same Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer. Its all-road capability, long-distance comfort and 30-litre fuel tank are built for the relentless pace, while Triumph's global dealer network will support routine servicing along the way.

THE WORLD AHEAD
THE ENDURANCE TEST
UP TO 16 HOURS A DAY IN THE SADDLE
This is far more than a test of speed. Sam must manage sleep deprivation, make decisions while exhausted and adapt to changing climates and road conditions without losing momentum. Long-haul transfers, multiple time zones and the pressure of racing the clock will push mind, body and machine to the limit.
LEG 1
LONDON TO ISTANBUL
The record attempt begins in London before cutting across England, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria to Turkey. Public roads, border crossings, changing weather and unfamiliar terrain will make every mile against the clock count.
LEG 2
BANGKOK TO KUALA LUMPUR
From Thailand, Sam will race south through Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur. Heat, humidity, heavy traffic and rapidly changing weather will demand total concentration as he settles into the relentless rhythm of the attempt.
LEG 3
TRAVEL ACROSS AUSTRALIA
Sam will cross Australia from Perth to Sydney, taking on the vast and treacherous outback. Extreme distance, isolation and fast-changing conditions make this one of the defining stages of the journey.
LEG 4
THE LENGTH OF NEW ZEALAND
Sam will be riding the entire length of New Zealand.
LEG 5
VANCOUVER TO MONTREAL
The longest section takes Sam across North America from Vancouver to Montreal, passing landmarks including the Bonneville Salt Flats.
LEG 6
CASABLANCA TO LONDON
After the final ocean transfer, he will ride from Casablanca through Spain and France before returning to London - completing a single continuous direction around the globe.
